Drawing is my foundation and what I employ when my eyes, mind and hand first explore a subject. From the initial pen, ink and wash impressions through larger scale charcoal and graphite works on paper, I begin to find a balance between dramatic values and identify the heartbeat of my compositions, by way of light and line.
